The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) is a non-profit organization
dedicated to helping individuals with dyslexia, their families and
the communities that support them. IDA is the oldest learning disabilities
organization in the nation -- founded in 1949 in memory of Dr. Samuel
T. Orton, a distinguished neurologist. Throughout our rich history,
our goal has been to provide the most comprehensive forum for parents,
educators, and researchers to share their experiences, methods,
and knowledge.

The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research
(NIDRR) has established ten regional centers to provide information,
training, and technical assistance to employers, people with disabilities,
and other entities with responsibilities under the ADA. The centers
act as a "one-stop" central, comprehensive resource on ADA issues
in employment, public services, public accommodations, and communications.

of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. (COPAA) is an independent,
nonprofit, §501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization of attorneys, advocates
and parents. Our primary mission is to secure high quality educational
services for children with disabilities. COPAA is premised on the
belief that the key to effective educational programs for children
with disabilities is collaboration -as equals- by parents and educators.
National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities
www.nichcy.org NICHCY stands for the National Dissemination Center
for Children with Disabilities. We serve the nation as a central
source of information on: disabilities in infants, toddlers, children,
and youth; IDEA, which is the law authorizing special education;
No Child Left Behind (as it relates to children with disabilities);
and research-based information on effective educational practices.

Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional

University of Oregon - DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early
Literacy Skills) http://dibels.uoregon.edu The Dynamic Indicators
of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of standardized,
individually administered measures of early literacy development.
They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used
to regularly monitor the development of pre-reading and early reading
skills.

Service Providers Needed
The San Diego Branch of the International Dyslexia Association
maintains an Information and Referral Line where people can
telephone for referrals to professionals who do educational
assessments, tutoring, and other services that a person with
dyslexia might require. The list needs more tutors with multi-sensory
training, educational therapists, physicians, psychologists,
advocates etc. from all parts of the county.
