IDA is the oldest learning disabilities organization in the nation -- founded in 1949 in memory of Dr. Samuel T. Orton, a distinguished neurologist. Throughout our rich history, our goal has been to provide the most comprehensive forum for parents, educators, and researchers to share their experiences, methods, and knowledge.

National Center for Learning Disabilities www.ncld.org Your online guide to essential information about learning disabilities, early literacy and learning resources, support for adolescents and adults with LD, public policy and advocacy tools. The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) has developed this comprehensive site.

Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic www.rfbd.org Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, a nonprofit volunteer organization, is the nation's educational library serving people who cannot effectively read standard print because of visual impairment, dyslexia, or other physical disability. Our mission is to create opportunities for individual success by providing, and promoting the effective use of, accessible educational materials.

Americans with Disabilities Act Technical Assistance www.adata.org The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) has established ten regional centers to provide information, training, and technical assistance to employers, people with disabilities, and other entities with responsibilities under the ADA. The centers act as a "one-stop" central, comprehensive resource on ADA issues in employment, public services, public accommodations, and communications.

Council of Parents, Attorneys & Advocacy www.copaa.net The Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. (COPAA) is an independent, nonprofit, §501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization of attorneys, advocates and parents. Our primary mission is to secure high quality educational services for children with disabilities. COPAA is premised on the belief that the key to effective educational programs for children with disabilities is collaboration -as equals- by parents and educators.

National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities www.nichcy.org NICHCY stands for the National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities. We serve the nation as a central source of information on: disabilities in infants, toddlers, children, and youth; IDEA, which is the law authorizing special education; No Child Left Behind (as it relates to children with disabilities); and research-based information on effective educational practices.

Council for Exceptional Children www.cec.sped.org The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for newly and historically underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

Learning Disabilities Association of California www.ldaca.org The Learning Disabilities Association of California is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization of parents, professionals, and adults with learning disabilities. Its purpose is to promote and support the education and general welfare of children and adults of potentially normal intelligence who manifest learning, perceptual, and/or behavioral handicaps

Learning Disabilities Association of San Diego www.ldasandiego.org LDA San Diego is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all individuals with learning disabilities and their families, alleviating the restricting effects of learning disabilities, and supporting endeavors to determine the causes of learning disabilities. LDA seeks to accomplish this through advocacy, education, research, service and through collaborative efforts.

University of Oregon - DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) http://dibels.uoregon.edu The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of standardized, individually administered measures of early literacy development. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of pre-reading and early reading skills.

 

 

 


Service Providers Needed

The San Diego Branch of the International Dyslexia Association maintains an Information and Referral Line where people can telephone for referrals to professionals who do educational assessments, tutoring, and other services that a person with dyslexia might require. The list needs more tutors with multi-sensory training, educational therapists, physicians, psychologists, advocates etc. from all parts of the county.
